Volunteer Dental Professionals
Volunteer on the SmileMobile!
The SmileMobile needs volunteer dentists, hygienists and dental assistants in the areas that we travel to in Washington State. The SmileMobile is a three chair mobile dental van staffed by a clinic manager, dentist and dental assistant.
What services do you provide?
Oral health education, examinations, digital-x-rays, fluoride varnish, sealants, cleanings, fillings, simple extractions and written referrals for patients with comprehensive dental needs.
SmileMobile Van
The van is 39 ft. long with two slide-outs; allowing more room in the main operatory area. There are three A-dec operatories to accommodate children and pregnant women. We do have the ability to accommodate left-handed dentists/hygienists with our new chairs.
What is the criteria?
Dentists, hygienists and assistants must have an active Washington State license and/or registration and practice dentistry within their “scope of work.” Dentists must verify their professional liability insurance.
How do I get started?
If you would like to volunteer or have questions. Please contact SmileMobile@ArcoraFoundation.org.
Receive CDE credit hours and a certificate too!
Dentists’ receive up to seven CDEs – one hour is equal to one hour of volunteer on the SmileMobile and hygienists’ receive up to five CDEs. Receive an electronic certificate following your visit verifying your volunteer hours.
What are the operational days and hours?
The SmileMobile typically operates Monday through Friday. The host dentist and staff provide examinations Monday and Tuesday with follow up treatment scheduled for Wednesday through Friday. Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer Wednesday – Friday of a one-week site and Monday through Friday of a two-week site. The hours are:
- Monday from 12:45 – 4:00
- Tuesday through Thursday from 8:45 – 12:00 and/or 12:45 – 4:00
- Friday from 8:45 – 12:00.
The staff will periodically work on Saturday if there is patient demand and the site partner (i.e. church, health department) is open.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your own protective eyewear and/ or other items that you may want to use while on the van. We do offer disposable gowns and latex free gloves in all sizes. Many of the sites that we travel to are rural. We ask that volunteer dentists bring their own assistant if possible. We do not always have an assistant available for our volunteers. If you are unable to bring your assistant, we will try to accommodate you.
